Handwoven on a Zapotec walking loom of the 16th century style using a 7 threads per inch harness. Patterns and symbols: the fifth pointed cross of the sacred directions with the growth pattern pointing inwards showing us that true growth starts withing. The central pattern is surrounded by small symbols such as: butterfly

The finished rug was  tie dyed with Xiuhquilitl (indigofera suffruticosa)

This rug depicts these ideas with the weaving of river symbols
