Early afternoon on the winter solstice found me hiking Cascade Creek in the Spanish Peaks of SW Montana

built years ago near the spring that allows the aspens to grow

warm days in late September when you can feel the seasons shifting

and the Spanish Peaks' highest summit

all lost to a colorful and blurred background while sun strikes his wings

I ran into a lone bull working his way along a ridge of sage as afternoon thunderheads swelled behind him

including an appearance by the aurora borealis and some of the most beautiful airglow that I've ever seen

finishing up the following night
