Antarctica in Black & White: Icebergs №5 PortugalArtwork Information A monochromatic representation of Antarcticas ice covered landscapes, highlighting the interplay of light, shadow, and texture. The absence of color emphasizes the sculptural forms and intricate patterns shaped by wind and temperature, capturing the stark beauty of this remote and fragile environment.
The series highlights the silent beauty and raw power of nature's abstract sculptures in these remote landscapes
interspersed with golden swirls of pine pollen
and carbon dioxide are released and form pockets of air which are then trapped in the ice
The fine grains shift with each tide and breeze
Their intense color is caused by the absorption of red and yellow light wavelengths
they transport vital nutrients for the ecosystem in the form of sediment
The absence of color also creates a sense of timelessness - a moment of perfect harmony in a world of ice that is yet so ephemeral and fragile
The atmosphere is shaped not by movement
This series was captured on a small beach in the Westfjords of Iceland
almost glowing blue—revealing their density and age
the merging waters form abstract patterns that seem both organic and deliberate
I’m grateful for the opportunity to share a glimpse of Antarctica through this collection
