Only Connect - Ex Large design

Only Connect - Ex Large designIn January 2023 I decided I was going to apply to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. That year the theme was Only Connect which is a quote from EM Forsters novel Howards End. 'Only connect' for me is a big subject as I believe we are all connected. My initial thoughts for this project were about the connections between people positive and negative, and how these forces shift. In some relationships they may jostle with each other on a daily basis.

This pendant shade has been impressed with seaweed found on the beach here in East Sussex

These porcelain coasters have been inlaid with cowparsley flowers and glazed chocolate brown

Natural cream porcelain backdrop with the addition of sepia and subtle blue and green glazes

There is a natural variation in the lighting as different environments effect the light levels emitted through the porcelain

Each night light / vase is individually made and unique - so no two pieces look exactly the same

It creates a warm atmosphere
