Artist's studio, late afternoon, 56 X 46 oil on linen framed Australian ArtThis is a study I painted in my studio looking through the window to the Plane trees outside the subject and muse for many of my paintings. I took some cuttings before the autumn took hold and arranged them as best I could on my old battered orange work chest.

It looked to manicured - a state I don't really identify as typical of the Australian landscape

I decided to expand the view and paint the studio behind in all its messy chaos

And I removed the fence

If you’ve ever stood in an expanse of logged forest

Originally conceived as a view across pasture cut off by a fenceline

and the dense foliage

I took some cuttings before the autumn took hold and arranged them as best I could on my old battered orange work chest

This was the entry notes that I wrote about the painting

This is one of two paintings I did of the inside of my studio which I'd prepared a vase of Plane tree cuttings to make studies of

left to rot

but it refers to the journey the work has had in the making

I liked some of the trees and so I retained those
