葫芦有福更有心，可以装金丹，聚灵气，弱水三千只取一瓢。

持莲观音，菩萨手持莲花，站在一片莲花瓣上，就像是站在莲花花瓣上遮风避雨，莲花处处开，照顾人间，是美好意象。持莲观音也是观音菩萨三十三法相之一。作品取莲花局部，抽象与阴刻的处理，让莲花像是在水底生出，又像是在身边护持。花瓣面上刻着《观世音菩萨普门品》经文的部分文字，除了表现菩萨的慈悲之像，莲花的美好寓意，也同时将佛法中禅学境界「​一花一世界，一叶一菩提」表现出来。菩萨心繫众生、护持众生，希望通过佛法能帮助到众生，为众生挡风避雨，每个人心中都能开出朵朵莲花。就像艺术家杨惠姗想表达的：我们没有办法让莲花处处开，但却能够透过修持，让自己的心，开一朵莲花，为自己、然后为众生，造一个圆融好世界。

在日本，据说菊花传自中国。因花型呈放射状展开且外观美丽，被认为是吉祥的象征。菊曾被作为长寿药 (汉方药) 使用，能带来长生不老、无病消灾，据说喝下杯中漂浮着菊花的菊酒，能够长命百岁。在过去的琉球，会将菊花纹样用于漆器、陶器及红型衣裳上。此外，也有仿造菊花形状所制作而成的漆器等作品。
